Vision exams are necessary especially if you are suffering from symptoms related to an eye condition. We have put together a list of frequently asked questions for those who do not know what to expect during a vision exam to ensure you are confident before arriving at our office.
request an appointmentHow Long Do Eye Exams Normally Last?
You should allow yourself anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes for your eye exam as multiple tests will be run. Once you complete your paperwork, you will undergo preliminary tests to determine your needs and wants for your visit. You will also spend as much time as needed with your optometrist to ensure that all of your questions and concerns have been addressed.
How Often Should I Have an Eye Exam?
For patients that wear contact lenses and younger patients that wear regular glasses, eye exams are recommended once a year since vision changes can occur over time. Patients that are over the age of 40 should come in once a year for an annual eye exam to test for glaucoma, cataracts, and others. If you are under the age of 40 and have no prescription glasses or contacts and no eyesight difficulties, you can schedule an eye exam every 2 years.
What Is an Air Puff Test? Will I Receive One?
All exams will include an air puff test to check the amount of pressure inside your eyes. This will help our optometrist determine whether or not you have glaucoma. New air puff test technology is fully automated and is much more comfortable than instruments used in the past.
What Are Retinal Images and Do Most Patients Have Them Taken?
Retinal images produce detailed images of all structures within the eye. This allows our eye doctor to document the health of your eyes and diagnose eye conditions before vision loss is allowed to occur. These images become a permanent part of your file that can be used for future reference related to your health record.
